Chicago homeless man wins 50,000 lotto

A homeless won $50,000 from a $1 scratch-off ticket in Chicago on March 31.

Rev. Greg Davis of United Pentecostal Church in Dekalb will never forget the trip he took to a gas station on a Thursday night.

The pastor told The Chicago Tribune he was standing behind a homeless man who he could tell "was certainly down on his luck," as the man got his lottery ticket checked by the clerk.

“He says ‘What did I win?’ $50,000. I thought he was having a heart attack," Davis explained. "First of all he wouldn’t say anything for a little bit he was just stunned and then he just started saying ‘Wow. Wow. Wow. Are you sure? $50,000.’”

The man, whose name is Denis, has been living in a tent in Bloomington, Ill. and plans to use the money he won to buy a trailer.

The reverend called the incident an Easter surprise.
