[VIDEO] Savannah Guthrie denies flipping Matt Lauer the bird

With media reporters desperate for any news of Matt Lauer's future at NBC's struggling "Today" show, the Peacock network can't afford any more bad press. Lauer already apologized Friday to a former intern who said he was "not nice."

But fellow "Today" show host Savannah Guthrie, who replaced Ann Curry last year, appeared to give Lauer the middle finger during a segment on vacuum cleaners. After Lauer joked that it was "the first time Savannah has ever used a vacuum," Guthrie stepped away and pointed a finger up in the air at her co-host.

Guthrie immediately defended the move, claiming that she had only thrown Lauer her index finger.

She also poked fun at what she termed a "faux controversy" on Twitter after the show, retweeting Lauer's joke that he had "stormed out" of the office in anger:
