Chinese gamer Li Meng spends 6 years at Internet cafe

Online addiction has become a growing problem in China and Li Meng, the Chinese gamer who has spent the last six years living inside an Internet cafe, is living proof.

According to the Business Insider, Meng spends most of his time in an Internet cafe in China's northeast city of Changchun, leaving only for food runs and the occasional shower.

The owner said Meng spends so much time at the cafe, they barely notice him anymore. He called the gamer "straightforward" and said he was "of little annoyance."

"[Meng] generally comes at night to play the game, gets sleepy during the day and sleeps here. From time to time [he] will be out to take a bath."

A reporter who attempted to talk to Meng said his gaze was locked on the computer screen the entire time. During the interview, the gamer said he had "a monthly income of RMB2,000 ($322), of which 500 ($80) is paid as a fee to the cafe every month."

Internet addiction has been spreading among Chinese youth for a while. In 2010, Wired Magazine wrote an article about a Chinese camp designed to cure children of their Internet addiction.

According to Wire, about 80 percent of Chinese youths suffer from the disease.
