Fox announces event series about O.J. Simpson's trial

On Wednesday, Fox announced it is developing a “tentpole event series” called “The Run of His Life: The People V. O.J. Simpson,” based on Jeffrey Toobin’s book of the same name.

“Everybody remembers where they were when O.J. Simpson, riding in a white Bronco, led the police on a low-speed chase all over Los Angeles,” Fox noted in its announcement, adding that the incident turned out setting the bases for what we now call reality television."

According to Fox, the movie will “take viewers behind the scenes of ‘The Trial of the Century,’ driven by the nonstop plot of a courtroom thriller and presenting the story of the trial as it has never been told.”

As the Washington Post notes, this isn't the first time the network tries to bring Simpson's story to the silver screen. Back in 2006, Fox announced a two hour special titled “O.J. Simpson: If I Did It, Here’s How It Happened,” an interview based on a book of the same name, which provided a hypothetical confession by the football player written by Simpson himself.

That project was canceled by News Corp. a few days after it was promoted, calling the project "ill-considered."

According to CNN, "The People vs. O.J. Simpson," which chronicles Simpson's 1995 murder trial, will be produced by Nina Jacobson (The Hunger Games) and Brad Simpson (World War Z).
