Donald Trump blasted last week's decision to end public tours of the White House due to the sequester hindering the associated Secret Service costs.

Appearing on "Fox and Friends" Monday, Trump was told of a tweet by former House of Representatives Speaker Newt Gingrich calling on the billionaire to donate to keep the tours going.

Of the tour cancellations, Trump told the hosts "they want to hurt the people. They want to do something to make their point."

On funding the tours himself, Trump said “it sounds reasonable to me." But he said he'd only do it if a prominent Democrat like Bill Maher stepped up to match his donation.

"Why not? It’s always been that simple, and it’s always been open, and it’s certainly not a lot of money…we have $17 trillion in debt. Closing the White House tours is not exactly the biggest thing on the agenda.”
