$250,000 Subway typo printed on NYC maps

If you needed more proof that typos can cost you, New York City's Metropolitan Transportation Authority accidentally published $250,000 worth of subway maps with incorrect fare information, The New York Post reported Sunday.

“They’re very embarrassed about this,” a transit source said. “They were frantically calling the booths trying to get these maps back.”

The MTA printed about 80,000 maps that listed the pay-per-ride price minimum as $4.50 when it should have read $5. The typo and lost funds are especially embarrassing because the MTA printed the new maps to alert subway riders to fare hikes.

According to the Post, at least two boxes of incorrect maps were distributed to station booths.
