Olympic runner Oscar Pistorius has been charged with murder after his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp was fatally shot in his home outside the capitol of South Africa.

Oscar Pistorius, 26, won two gold medals and a silver at last year’s Paralympic Games in London. In 2012, he became the first double-amputee sprinter to race in the Olympics, where he reached the 400-meter semifinal. He races using carbon fiber prosthetic blades, which gave him the nickname Blade Runner.

Reeva Steenkamp, the runner's girlfriend of about a year, was found dead in his Pretoria home with shots to the head and arm. It was initially reported by South African media that Pistorius mistook her for an intruder, but local police said they had responded earlier to a call of a "domestic" nature. As of Thursday, Pistorius has been officially charged with murder.

Steenkamp is a model, law graduate, and reality tv personality. On Twitter Wednesday, she seemed happy with her "boo" and was looking forward to Valentine's Day.
