Pat Robertson says women should 'look pretty' for their husbands [VIDEO]

Conservative "700 Club" host Pat Robertson raised eyebrows this week when he blamed a teenager's parents' marital problems on his mother's behavior and looks.

According to the Daily Mail, a 17-year-old boy wrote Maxim magazine a letter asking how he could get his father to spend more time with his mother. "He spends too much time at the computer playing a war game. I’ve noticed how alone my mom feels," the letter read.

Robertson suggested that the teenager's mother might have become "kind of hard-nosed." "Maybe your mom isn't as sweet as you think she is," Robertson said.

"How are you going to blame the mother?" Robertson's female co-host asked in disbelief.

"It's easy," he said, adding this anecdote:

A woman came to a preacher I know -- it’s so funny -- she was awful-looking. Her hair was all torn up, she was overweight and looked terrible, clothes bad and everything, and she said, 'Oh Reverend, what can I do? My husband has started to drink.

And the preacher looked at her and he said: 'Madam, if I were married to you, I'd start to drink too.'

Robertson made similar comments in 2010, telling a viewer to make herself "as attractive as possible" for her husband:

Anne, first thing is you need to make yourself as attractive as possible and don’t hassle him about it. And why is he doing this? Well, he’s doing it because he wants affirmation that he is still a man, that he is attractive -- and he gets an affirmation of himself. That means he’s got an inferiority complex that’s coming out. And he’s not gonna cheat on you. He’s just playing.

But you need to not drive him away or start hassling and hounding on him, but make yourself as beautiful as you can, as fun as you can, and say let’s go out here, let’s go there, let’s go to the other thing.
