After four days of silence, the National Rifle Association has finally released a statement on the mass shooting of 27 people, including 20 children, Friday.
People both for and against stricter gun control laws turned toward the NRA in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting that left 28 people dead in Newtown, Conn.
The powerful pro-gun lobby, which has fought against any restrictions on the regulation of gun ownership and usage, was silent in the days following the shooting, shutting down their Facebook and staying off Twitter.
Finally, Tuesday, they released the following statement:
National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters – and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown. Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting. The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again. The NRA is planning to hold a major news conference in the Washington, DC area on Friday, December 21.
