SEATTLE, Aug. 2 -- Less than two weeks after losing Patrick Ewing to free agency, the Seattle SuperSonics have signed Dallas Mavericks restricted free agent center Calvin Booth to an offer sheet.
Terms were not disclosed, but the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported it is a six-year, $34 million deal.
The Mavericks, who have been courting free agent forward Danny Manning, have 15 days to match the offer.
The 25-year-old Booth started last season with the Washington Wizards but was traded with Juwan Howard to Dallas on Feb. 22. The 6-11, 241-pound Penn State product was 12th in the NBA with 2.02 blocked shots per game while averaging 5.3 points and 4.5 rebounds.
"Calvin was definitely at the top of our list this summer," said Sonics Coach Nate McMillan. "I feel he is one of the up and coming centers in the league with tremendous potential. Calvin has a great feel for the game, especially on the defensive end of the floor. He's a legitimate center with a bright future and he's a self-made player. He comes to play every night. The potential for him to improve is huge."
Booth was taken by the Wizards in the second round of the 1999 draft.
