Aug. 25 (UPI) -- WWE star Asuka has relinquished her NXT Women's Championship days after it was announced that she would be out of action due to a broken collarbone.

Asuka handed over her title to NXT general manager William Regal Thursday during NXT tapings at Full Sail University in Orlando.

The Empress of Tomorrow's historic 500-plus day reign will officially come to an end when NXT airs Wednesday on the WWE Network.

WWE shared a video on Twitter featuring Asuka standing in the ring as the NXT crowd chanted "Thank you Asuka!"

The company noted that Asuka will be looking for "new opportunities in WWE," hinting that she will be making her main roster debut on either Raw or Smackdown Live once she recovers from injury.

Asuka last successfully defended the NXT Women's Championship Saturday against Ember Moon at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III.

"During the match, she landed awkwardly from a throw from Ember Moon and was able to complete the match, but had notable pain and discomfort," ringside physician Dr. Jeffrey Westerfield said previously in a statement. "We performed an initial ultrasound backstage that was highly suspicious of a break that was later confirmed by an X-ray."
