SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Police in Massachusetts said the driver of a livestock truck from which two cows escaped will be cited for having an unsecured load.
Massachusetts State Police said Rene Cote slowed the vehicle on Interstate 91 in Springfield when he noticed the trailer's rear gate was open and the two cows ran out onto the road, The Republican, Springfield, reported Wednesday.

Police said one of the cows was caught shortly after their 10:30 a.m. Tuesday escape and the other was secured by 11 a.m. Sgt. Alan Joubert of the Springfield barracks said the cows were bound for a slaughterhouse.
"We saved the cows but not for long," Joubert said.
