Dec. 9 (UPI) -- At least 11 people have been killed by a car bomb detonated next to a cafe in central Iraq, Monday.

The town of Buhriz, located about 40 miles from Baghdad, was hit by the explosion which also injured 20 people. Iraq this year has seen a worrying level of violence. Not since 2008 have this many people been killed in the religiously-diverse Middle Eastern nation.

More than 7,150 civilians and 950 security forces personnel have been killed since January.

On Sunday a series of car bombs killed at least 30 people in Baghdad. A further 90 people were wounded.
