Ukraine suspends EU bid

Ukraine said it would instead work on building better ties with Russia.

Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Ukranian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov announced Thursday that Ukraine would suspend its bid to join the European Union in favor of strengthening ties with Russia.

He said his country was looking to Russia "with the aim of adopting measures to ensure national security."

Ukraine was allegedly under heavy pressure from Russia not to sign the EU deal, which would have been seen as historic.
