North Korea may have detained US citizen

North Korea says the man broke the law after entering on a tourist visa.

(UPI) -- An elderly US citizen who entered North Korea legally on a tourist visa last month may be detained by the nation, according to Japan's Kyodo news service.

North Korea is also holding Kenneth Bae, a Korean-American Christian missionary, since 2012. Bae has been sentenced to 15 years of hard labor.

North Korea claims the elderly man broke the law.

"We are aware of reports that a US citizen was detained in North Korea, but we have no additional information to share at this time," said Nolan Barkhouse, a spokesman for the US embassy in Beijing.

The US and North Korea have no diplomatic relations.
