Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Three appeals court judges in Buenos Aires ruled Wednesday that Liam Payne's friend Rogelio Nores will no longer be criminally charged in the One Direction star's death.
The court also dropped charges against Gilda Martin and Esteban Grassi, the manager and receptionist at the Buenos Aires hotel where Payne died.
"Glad this is finally over. I'm happy I'm now going to be able to travel to the U.K. and say goodbye to my friend," Nores told Rolling Stone.
Attorney Rafael Cuneo Libarona added that Nores was not responsible for Payne's death, he was just Payne's friend with "no duty or legal obligation to ensure his safety."
Nores was charged with manslaughter along with Martin and Grassi in December.
Hotel employees Ezequiel Pereyra and Braian Paiz were charged with allegedly supplying cocaine to Payne.
They remain in prison and face sentences of between four and 15 years if convicted.
Nores sued Payne's father Geoff Payne for allegedly making defamatory statements to police about Nores.
Payne's father told police Nores was part of a "care group" for Liam because he "could not be left alone in the vulnerable position in which he was."
The $10 million suit Nores filed in Florida asserted he was not Liam Payne's caretaker or nurse. Nores said Geoff Payne needs to backtrack on his statement to police.
Nores said if the lawsuit produces any proceeds, they will go to Payne's sone Bear.
