Brussels metro manager STIB, said a statement on X that there was an "interruption of metro lines 2 and 6" and "trams 4 and 10, the Gare du Midi and Clemenceau stations are closed by order of the police."

The 2 and 6 lines are near the European Parliament.

Brussels police spokesperson Sarah Frederickx said police are looking for two or three people seen in CCTV footage firing what looked like Kalashnikov rifles. Cameras captured them shooting but it wasn't clear what they were firing at.

Frederickx told Politico "there were no victims" and the metro line was shut down for security reasons as police search for the suspects.

She said the surveillance cameras showed the suspects fled toward the Clemenceau station.

Belgium's VRT quoted an unnamed local resident, who said she was scared by the gunfire.
