Feb. 8 (UPI) -- The Center for Disease Control said it was investigating an unknown gastrointestinal disease outbreak on a cruise ship currently en route from San Francisco to Hawaii.

More than 150 passengers have now reported gastrointestinal illness, including diarrhea and vomiting aboard Cunard's Queen Victoria ship.

Sickness totals are from the entire voyage, and do not represent current illness, according to the CDC.

Of more than 2,800 people aboard the Queen Victoria, 129 passengers and 25 crew members reported being sick.

According to the CDC, just over 140 illnesses were reported during a stop in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Jan. 22, with 123 of the 1,824 passengers and 16 of the ships 967 crew reporting feeling sick.

The Cunard Full World Voyage departed on Jan. 11 and lasts 107 days. It will arrive back in Southampton, England on April 28. The ship's next stop is Honolulu on Monday.

In addition to destinations like San Francisco, the ship also makes stops in Fiji, plus overnights in Hong Kong and South Africa.

NBC Bay Area spoke with passengers who said they hadn't been told much about the investigation.

In response to the outbreak, Cunard Cruise Line said crews had increased cleaning and disinfection procedures, isolated ill passengers and crew and notified current and embarking passengers and crew of the situation onboard.
