U.S. man killed wife on honeymoon at luxury Fiji resort, police say

July 22 (UPI) -- Authorities on the island of Fiji have arrested an American man after they say he killed his wife while they were on their honeymoon at a luxury resort there earlier this month.

Police said they found the wife, Christe Chen, dead in the couple's hotel room at Turtle Island -- a luxury resort near Fiji's Yasawa archipelago.

Investigators said that Chen, 36, died of multiple blunt-force injuries.

Police tracked Chen's new husband, Bradley Robert Dawson, to another Fiji island two days later and arrested him.

Dawson, 38, has been charged with a count of murder and he's expected to appear before Fiji's Lautoka High Court on July 27. Authorities have not yet spoken about a possible motive for the killing.

The Tennessee couple married in February but only recently set out on their honeymoon.

"We cooperated with the authorities during the investigation," the Turtle Island resort said according to ABC News.

"We continue to send our condolences to Ms. Chen's family, friends, and colleagues."

Dawson's attorney said he will make a bail application, but believes it's unlikely to succeed.

"Mr. Dawson is going to be in Fiji for a long time before this case is resolved, one way or the other," former FBI agent Brad Garett told ABC News.

Located in the far south Pacific Ocean, Fiji is highly popular with tourists and is home to numerous resorts. It gained even more fame 40 years ago when the 1980 film The Blue Lagoon, starring Christopher Atkins and a 15-year-old Brooke Shields, was filmed there.
