Sept. 5 (UPI) -- A car bomb exploded in downtown Kabul, Afghanistan, Thursday killing at least 10 people, including one soldier from the United States and another from Romania, Operation Resolute Support said in a statement.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack that occurred at 10:10 a.m. local time. A suicide bomber detonated a car at the National Directorate of Security checkpoint. The attack also left at least 42 people wounded. The building houses Afghan special forces and a small contingent of international soldiers.
The name of the U.S. soldier is being withheld until 24 hours after family have been notified, the statement read. Further information on the soldier from Romania will be released by authorities in that country.
This latest attack comes three days after a truck bomb exploded near the Green Village compound in east Kabul, killing 16 people and wounding 119 others.
