At least six die in India hospital fire

Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Six people died, including a 2-month-old baby, and 147 people were rescued when a five-story hospital caught fire in the Andheri district of Mumbai on Monday.

Firefighters scrambled to rescue patients from the fire at teh government-owned Employees State Insurance Corp. Hospital. In all, 108 people were rescued and 147 patients were transferred to a nearby hospital.

The baby's death was confirmed by doctors. Two other babies were rescued from intensive-care unit. Some people who were trapped by the fire jumped off the upper floors to save themselves.

The fire started on the fourth floor.

Fire officials said the hospital was under construction for the addition of a seven-story building.
