Dec. 14 (UPI) -- A Minnesota woman studying in the Netherlands was stabbed to death and the suspected killer, a fellow student, was arrested, police said.

Sarah Papenheim, 21, a psychology student at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, was found dead in her home in a student apartment complex Wednesday with multiple stab wounds. An unidentified man described by police a resident was captured at a train station 60 miles away.

The woman went to Rotterdam in 2016 after her brother's suicide three years ago, NL Times reported.

Papenheim's mother in Minnesota, Donee Odegard, said the suspect was her daughter's roommate -- and said she last spoke to her daughter last weekend, when her daughter said the man was acting strangely.

"I told her she needed to get out of there, that he seemed dangerous, but she told me, 'No mom, I'm his only friend and he won't hurt me.'"

Papenheim was prominent in the Minneapolis music scene as a popular jazz drummer.

"We are holding each other together today in this community because she was so special," said fellow musician Mario Dawson.

A social media funding site is collecting money to return her body to the United States.

"The thing that is going through my head is that she was coming home for Christmas, and we were all so excited to see her and to hear that she was coming back that way, and that was just tragic," said musician and friend George Moye.
