May 24 (UPI) -- At least two people were killed and more than 20 were injured when a passenger train in northern Italy derailed after hitting a cargo truck, officials said. Authorities said the crash occurred late Wednesday near Turin.
The driver, 61-year-old Roberto Madau, and a 64-year-old technician in charge of the train were killed. At least three people were critically hurt, officials said.
Two of the train's three cars were derailed before stopping in the courtyard of a home next to the railway. The train also took out a light pole.
Passengers said they heard "everything vibrate" and a "very strong roar" when the train went off the rails.
Italian authorities are looking for the cause and the driver of the truck is being questioned.
