May 8 (UPI) -- Audi recalled 60,000 cars on Tuesday due to irregularities in the engine management software.

The problem in the exhaust-gas cleaning system's software affects A6 and A7 models.

Delivery of these cars affected by the software problem has been stopped with models being phased out, according to a release from the German automaker. Customers who had already ordered the models were notified.

The models will receive a software update.

Audi CEO Rupert Stadler said in a release that the irregularities were discovered through "systematic engine testing program," and they were reported to the Federal Motor Transport Authority immediately.

Of the 60,000 cars impacted, none were in the United States, the release said.

Last month, Audi recalled more than 1 million cars worldwide due to a coolant pump defect that could cause them to overheat and catch fire.

The April recall included 342,867 cars in the United States.
