Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Mexican authorities are searching for three missing Italian nationals who disappeared on three weeks ago in the western state of Jalisco.
Raffaele Russo, 60, his son Antonio, 25 and nephew Vincenzo Cimmino, 29, disappeared in the town of Tecalitlan, authorities said.
The three Naples natives went missing after they were detained by police at a gas station.
Family members of the three men say Antonio Russo sent them a voice message saying he was alarmed by local police who'd asked the men to follow them.
Friends and family members marched through the streets of Naples last weekend demanding answers from Mexican authorities about what happened to the men.
"We are working very hard to locate these three people," Jalisco State Government spokesman Roberto Lopez said to reporters.
The U.S. State Department has warned Americans not to travel to the Jalisco state in Mexico due to violent crime and gang activity.
