Two soldiers killed, nine injured as militants storm Indian army camp

Feb. 10 (UPI) -- An Islamist militant group stormed the family quarters of an army camp in the Sunjuwan area of Jammu on Saturday morning, killing two soldiers and injuring nine others including five women and children, officials said.

The Pakistani rebel group Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed responsibility of the attack, which also resulted in three terrorists being shot and killed. Since 2014, the group has led 14 major terror attacks on the army in Jammu and Kashmir in a quest to separate the state of Kashmir from India and merge it into Pakistan.

The terrorists, wearing army combat dress, had assault rifles, large amounts of ammunition and hand grenades, officials said.

"Deeply disturbed by the terrorist attack in #Sunjwan today. My heart goes out to the injured & their families," Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti tweeted.

The chief minister also tweeted photographs taken during a visit to see the injured at the hospital.

More than 150 houses in the complex were evacuated and residents were moved to safety while the operation continues with a search for any remaining terrorists.

"Operations will continue till all the terrorist are apprehended or killed," an army official said.
