AI on the job hunt: Firm says platform can rate cover letters in 3 seconds

By Yonhap News Agency

SEOUL, South Korea, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- SK Holdings Co., the holding firm of South Korean energy and telecom conglomerate SK Group, said Thursday its artificial intelligence platform has successfully found the right cover letter in a flash, a technology that could ease the burden of human resources officials.

Last year, Aibril Employment Helper evaluated 10,000 cover letters of people applying for jobs at SK hynix Inc., the chip-making unit of SK Group, in eight hours, or just less than three seconds per cover letter.

In comparison, evaluations of 10,000 cover letters by 10 human resources officials usually take about 56 hours, according to SK Holdings.

Aibril has been optimized based on Watson, IBM's artificial intelligence platform.

The margin of error between the outcome of the Aibril platform and the manual evaluation by human resources officials was less than 15 percent.

The company said it will continue to update Aibril Employment Helper with cover letters of new job seekers to enhance the accuracy of the assessment.

"We've focused on the evaluation of self-introduction letters this time," said Lee Kyu-seok of SK Holdings, noting the company will refine the system so it can help assign successful applicants to their optimal positions.
