Dec. 15 (UPI) -- A 6.5-magnitude earthquake rattled the western part of the island of Java in Indonesia on Friday, authorities said.

The center of the temblor was situated in the town of Cipatujah, about 190 miles away from Jakarta, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

CNN reported residents in Jakarta evacuated high-rise buildings and authorities evacuated a damaged hospital in Banyumas.

The National Disaster Management and Mitigation Agency issued a tsunami alert, though no large waves were reported.

Injuries or deaths were not immediately reported.
