Sept. 13 (UPI) -- An explosion outside a Kabul, Afghanistan, cricket stadium killed at least two people on Wednesday, officials said.

A suicide bomber detonated the explosives at a security checkpoint at the Alokozay Kabul International Cricket stadium while a match was in progress and fans were inside the stadium, Iran's Press TV reported, citing local sources.

The two dead were security guards, and several other people were injured. Stadium officials said all cricket players were safe.

Kabul's Shpageeza Cricket League tournament began play on Monday and will continue until Sept. 22. The explosion stopped play for a short time.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the incident, but Taliban insurgents have previously said they will step up isolated attacks until U.S. forces withdraw fully from Afghanistan.
