Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Irma weakened to a post-tropical cyclone early Tuesday morning but heavy rainfall was expected to continue in the southeastern United States, the National Hurricane Center said.
In its 5 a.m. advisory, the NHC said the eye of the storm was about 65 miles southwest of Atlanta and 100 miles east-southeast of Birmingham, Ala. Irma was moving north-northwest at 10 mph with maximum sustained winds of 15 mph.
