The person killed was a 42-year-old woman and the person arrested is a 35-year-old man who may have mental health issues, euronews reported. He may also be known to police.

Authorities said the bus stop collisions had "no indication of link to terrorism."

Police advised residents to avoid the Charles Livon Boulevard in Marseille's Vieux-Port, or Old Port, area. The Marseille city government said several bus routes were temporarily changed after the incidents.

France and other countries have experienced an increase recently in vehicles being deliberately driven into crowds of people.

About a dozen people were killed in Barcelona after a driver of a van rammed into a crowd of people on Thursday. On July 15, 2016, a militant used a truck to drive through a Bastille Day crowd in Nice, killing 86 people.
