Airbus unveils more spacious, fuel efficient A380plus plane

June 18 (UPI) -- The Airbus manufacturer on Sunday unveiled its A380plus wide-body jet plane, an upgraded version of what is the world's largest passenger aircraft.

Airbus, headquartered in France, said the new aircraft will be 4 percent more fuel efficient and will have more space for up to 80 more seats than the previous model. The company said the cost per seat when compared to the previous model will decrease 13 percent.

The company showed off the jet plane, which has a new wing design to improve aerodynamics, ahead of the Paris Airshow.

"The A380 average seat count would move from 497 to 575 in four classes, and generate significantly more revenue for airlines," the company said in a statement.

Airbus also said the A380Plus would require less regular maintenance examinations.

"The A380plus is an efficient way to offer even better economics and improved operational performance at the same time," Airbus Chief Operating Officer John Leahy said in a statement.
