June 5 (UPI) -- Google is celebrating World Environment Day 2017 with a new Doodle.

Google's homepage features a brief animation of their logo turning green as the letter "l" in Google transforms into a tree.

Clicking on the logo displays the various ways the company is staying green and helping the environment. Google has released an environmental report and several articles on their projects.

Created by the United Nations, World Environment Day helps spread awareness about the environment and information on what can be done to protect it across 143 countries.

Started in 1974, World Environment Day which is celebrated every year on June 5, is being hosted by Canada with this year's theme being "Connecting People to Nature."
