Three militants stormed the compound housing Radio Television Afghanistan in the eastern Afghan city, and two of the suicide bombers blew themselves up. Another person died, and 16 were injured, a local hospital director confirmed, when two motorbikes outside the compound exploded.
Twenty employees of the broadcasting facility escaped the attack, but others were trapped within the building, the BBC reported.
IS and Taliban agents are active in the city, in Nangarhar province and near Afghanistan's border with Pakistan. IS took responsibility for the attack. Its news outlet Amaq announced that a "commando" raid at the facility was underway. Both groups have attacked high-profile targets in Afghanistan in recent months, including assaults on the country's largest military hospital, in Kabul, and an Afghan military base in Mazar-e-Sharif.
