May 2 (UPI) -- A man attempting to climb an Eurostar train in Paris was electrocuted early Tuesday, the second fatal incident at the station in two years involving a migrant.
Around 5 a.m., the unidentified man climbed safety fences to reach international train lines and was struck by an electricity bolt from power lines as he climbed on the roof of a training leaving for London at the Gare du Nord station, authorities said.
He was killed "within seconds" on the roof of a parked train, investigators said.
Identification of the remains would be "tough" because the "victim's burns made them unrecognizable," a source told Le Parisien.
Power to railway lines was cut and service disrupted for 1 1/2 hours while emergency services recovered the man's body.
In July 2015, an Egyptian teenager attempting to reach Britain also was electrocuted at the station.
After the first death, security measures were increased, including the installation of fencing meant to keep people off the train routes connecting France and the Britain, and the use of drones for Eurostar trains to detect possible trespassers with thermal imaging.
A few hours before Tuesday's death, two men trying to climb over the fences were discovered when a alarm went off. It wasn't known whether these individuals were connected to the fatality.
