March 21 (UPI) -- Mexico's Attorney General for the Chihuahua state said cartel clashes killed eight "criminals," including César "El Cabo" Raúl Gamboa Sosa -- a leader of the Juárez Cartel's armed La Línea branch.
At least four members of the Cuauhtémoc Municipal Police were injured responding to the clashes that occurred at various locations -- including some along highways -- north of Cuauhtémoc on Sunday and early Monday. Overall, officials seized 14 vehicles, and various weapons and tactical equipment.
Officials in the state warned nearby residents to avoid going out to the streets and urged them not to upload images of the dead men to the Internet. Officials believe the clashes occurred due to infighting within the Juárez Cartel.
The Chihuahua attorney general said it launched investigations at the scenes of the clashes.
"The evidence gathered in the area was integrated into the investigation folder in the attacks that had, as a result, eight deceased criminals, including the alleged criminal leader César Raúl Gamboa Sosa, alias 'El Cabo,' and four elements of the Municipal Police of Cuauhtémoc injured," the Chihuahua Attorney General said in a statement.
