March 13 (UPI) -- Google is the welcoming the start of the Holi festival with a new Doodle. Google's homepage features an animated sequence featuring a grey Google logo that is painted with a variety of colors by an excited mob of running children. One member stays behind to finish the job, throwing a dash of blue onto the letter "e."

"Today, the Google letters are taking on a fresh set of colors in honor of the Holi festival. "Coinciding with the arrival of spring, the vibrant celebration looks a lot like the Doodle: people run around happily covering each other in a rainbow of powdery hues," Google writes of the holiday.
"Amid the cloud of red, blue, yellow, green, and everything in between, festival-goers can often be found laughing, singing, and dancing in the streets. The joyous event, which takes place in India, Nepal, and other countries around the world, traditionally marks the triumph of good over evil. It also gives family and friends a chance to simply come together, enjoying a spirited "Festival of Colors" that undoubtedly lives up to its name," they continue.
The two-day celebration, which takes place on March 13 and 14 this year, begins with bonfires on the first evening before the use of color on the second day.
The color used is said to be non-toxic and made from a mix of food dye, flour and water. Participants are known to moisturize their skin before the event and put oil in their hair so that the color can be easily rinsed out.
