Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Colombia's Special Administrative Unit of Civil Aeronautics, or Aerocivil, on Tuesday said it is searching for a Cessna 172 Skyhawk that went missing near the border with Venezuela.

The plane was flying between the municipalities of San Felipe and Puerto Inírida in Colombia's Guainía Department, which borders Venezuela and Brazil. The plane's last known location was near the Venezuelan border before it was reported missing Monday afternoon.

On Tuesday, Aerocivil said search efforts have been slowed due to bad weather. The search for the plane will be conducted by Colombian Air Force aircraft.

"The [Salvage, Search and Rescue] group of Aerocivil, in coordination with rescue bodies, continue the search for the HK2155 that was reported missing when it was covering the route of San Felipe-Puerto Inírida with five people on board," Aerocivil said in a statement.
