Two U.S. Marines injured after MV-22 Osprey crash in Okinawa

OKINAWA, Japan, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Two U.S. Marines sustained injuries after an MV-22 Osprey carrying five crew members crashed about 6 miles from the coast of Okinawa, Japan, military officials said.

The incident occurred at about 10 p.m. Tuesday. The extent of injuries was not revealed.

"All five crewmembers aboard an MV-22 Osprey with Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing were successfully rescued when their aircraft conducted a landing in shallow water off the Okinawa coastline of Camp Schwab," the III Marine Expeditionary Force said in a statement.

The crew was airlifted from the Kadena Air Base to the United States Naval Hospital in Camp Foster on the Okinawa Prefecture. An investigation into the incident has been launched.
