GURABO, Puerto Rico, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- The FBI said it arrested Víctor Manuel Ortiz Díaz, the recently re-elected mayor of Puerto Rico's Gurabo municipality, on Wednesday for alleged corruption.

FBI spokesman Carlos Osorio said Ortiz Díaz was arrested without incident at 6:30 a.m. at his luxury home in Gurabo's Ciudad Jardín neighborhood. Osorio said the mayor is being investigated for allegedly receiving bribes from contractors -- an accusation first reported in January.

Ortiz Díaz was re-elected following the Nov. 8 general election. He received 62 percent of the vote, Puerto Rico's State Elections Commission reported.

Ortiz Díaz arrest follows the arrests in recent years by U.S. federal authorities of other Puerto Rico mayors, including Barceloneta Mayor Sol Luis Fontanes and Rio Grande Mayor Eduard Rivera Correa over similar corruption allegations, El Nuevo Día reported.
