KABUL, Afghanistan, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- A suicide bomb explosion in Kabul's Baqir ul Olum Shiite mosque killed at least 27 people and injured another 35 Monday, a police chief said.
The bombing on the first floor of the mosque occurred as congregants prepared for prayers, Afghanistan's Interior Ministry said. The explosion happened as a service honoring the death of Imam Hussein, Shiite martyr and grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, was ending. The Shiite sect of Islam regards him as the rightful heir to the prophet.
