TAIPEI, Taiwan, July 19 (UPI) -- At least 26 people have been killed Tuesday when a tourist bus crashed and burst into flames in Taiwan's capital city.

The bus crashed just after noon into a barrier on the road to Taoyuan International Airport. The passengers are believed to be Chinese mainlanders.

The fire started near the front of the bus, causing the driver to lose control and slam the bus into the railing, authorities said.

Passengers were trapped in the burning bus when the door was held shut by the railing.
