JERUSALEM, April 21 (UPI) -- Shin Bet, Israel's internal security agency, has confirmed the suicide bombing targeting a bus in Jerusalem this week was carried out by a member of the Hamas Palestinian Islamist group.

The bus bombing on Monday killed Abdul Hamid Abu Srour, the presumed bomber who died from his injures at Jerusalem's Shaare Zedek Medical Center, and injured 20 people, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Israeli authorities have not revealed if they will treat the bombing as a terrorist attack.

Hamas previously took credit for the incident, describing the 19-year-old bomber as a "martyr" and the attack as a "natural reaction to Israeli crimes." The bus was an Egged public transportation bus on Line 12 in Jerusalem.

A media gag order is limiting reporting on the bombing, BBC News reported.

Hamas, a political and militant group, is designated as a terrorist organization by the United States, Israel, the European Union, Canada and Japan. The organization's charter commits to the destruction of Israel.
