4 militants killed in Punjab terror attack

AMRITSAR, India, Jan. 1 (UPI) -- A gun battle broke out between police and militants at the Pathankot Air Force base in northern Punjab Province after terrorists attacked the base.

Police killed four militants after an attack around 4 a.m. Saturday. Two security officers were killed, and six were injured.

The Times of India reported between four and six terrorists arrived in military uniforms to attack the base. Police dispatched a helicopter to the area. ANI News reported the militants had been driven back to the residential area of the base.

Top officials convened a meeting in Delhi, and security has been tightened across Punjab as the conflict continued.
