Paris cafe reopens after November terrorist attack

PARIS, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- The Café Bonne Biere in Paris, where five people were killed by Islamic State terrorists on Nov. 13, reopened Friday.

"This is a big moment for us to welcome back our customers," bar manager Audrey Bily told a crowd on the sidewalk before the doors opened. "We are a big family here together. This has always been a place of sharing and conviviality. Now we want to get going again."

The five victims were killed while sitting on the terrace surrounding two sides of the building three weeks ago. Surveillance videotape recorded two gunmen opening fire on them.

The restaurant has been cordoned off by police tape since the attack, and has become the site of piles of personal memorial remembrances.

The makeshift memorial has now been reduced, and glass panels with bullet holes in them have been replaced. A banner reading, "Je suis en terrasse", or, "I am on the terrace" -- a popular phrase after the massacre that killed 130 at sites across Paris' 10th arrondissement -- now hangs over the front door.

A restaurant across the street and four other restaurants, which were also attacked, remain closed, as does the Bataclan music hall, where 89 people died.
