LONDON, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Prince Harry shared an emotional moment with wounded U.S. Marine Kirstie Ennis at the Walking With the Wounded's Walk of Britain.

Ennis was greeted by the 31-year-old royal Sunday as she and five fellow veterans reached the end of the 1,000-mile marathon that took place throughout the country.

Harry appeared deeply moved and hugged Ennis after she decided to give him a treasured dog tag of fallen Marine Cpl. Baune from Minnesota who died in Helmand Province in 2012 after his unit was hit by a blast while on patrol.

Ennis had left 24 other dog tags around the United Kingdom during the trek, People reported, and decided to give the last one, originally meant to be placed at Buckingham Palace to Prince Harry instead.

"No I can't, I can't accept this," Prince Harry said, nearly in tears. "Please, you know what this means to me, I want you to," Ennis replied.

"1000 miles in 72 days!" the Kensington Palace Twitter account tweeted, showing a pic of Harry and Ennis embracing. "Huge congratulations @supportthewalk #WalkofBritain veterans on your incredible achievement!"

Ennis was able to complete the marathon despite putting off having her injured leg amputated over the summer. Recently, Harry joined first lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden to honor wounded veterans in Fort Belvoir, Va.
