ZHUKOVSKY DISTRICT - MOSCOW, Russia, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted Jordanian King Abdullah II, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan and other Arab leaders on the first day of the International Aviation and Space Salon -- MAKS 2015 -- held outside Moscow.
Putin said many "serious agreements" would be signed during the 6-day show, Journal Star reported.
Putin added that Russia intends to promote its passenger and transport planes more actively in both the domestic and international markets, while also increasing its space potential and strengthening its position as a producer of military aircraft.
"This is an event that traditionally brings together leading Russian and foreign aviation companies and demonstrates the latest models of air and space technology," Putin said in his introductory remarks.
MAKS is an important event in Russian business. The show has become a marketplace for aerospace manufacturers to find export contracts and for air carriers to find foreign contacts.
Al Nayhan, who also serves as the deputy commander of the United Arab Emirates armed forces, held discussions with Putin about improving the political, economic, investment, trade and energy ties between the two countries. They also discussed the ongoing crises in Yemen and Syria, Arabianbusiness.com reported.
Al Nayhan also met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on the sidelines of his visit to MAKS 2015. They discussed ways to bolster bilateral ties. The two sides discussed the importance of enhancing Arab national security, particularly with the rise of the Islamic State in the region.
