Doctors say the wound did not threaten any vital organs.

Ordóñez comes from multiple generations of prominent matadors. His father, the popular Antonio Ordóñez, who also went by the name "Paquirri," died after being gored by a bull in 1984.

The incident comes two days after a man was gored to death while using his phone to film a bull run through the streets of Villaseca de la Sagra, in central Spain, according to the Guardian.

Last month, three men were gored and 10 others injured in Pamplona at the start of the San Fermín festival's annual Running of the Bulls. Local officials said many "suffered facial traumas or injuries to arms and legs," and at least one man was gored "between the anus and genitals."

Since records of the festival began in 1911, 15 people are reported to have have died during the ceremony in Pamplona.

Estimates of the total number of matador fatalities vary, with some suggesting at least 533 since 1700.
