MAZAPIL, Mexico, July 30 (UPI) -- At least 25 people were killed and at least 30 were injured after a runaway truck crashed into a religious procession in Mexico.

The accident occurred after the truck's brakes failed in the town of Mazapil in Mexico's Zacatecas state. The truck, which was carrying sand, plowed into a crowd of about 200 people.

Several personnel from Mexico's civil and security agencies visited the scene. The driver of the truck reportedly fled.

Several vehicles were also damaged by the runaway truck.

Zacatecas Gov. Miguel Alonso Reyes expressed his condolences and ordered the immediate support of the injured and the families of crash victims.

The procession was part of a traditional pilgrimage that had been taking place since Sunday.
