MOGADISHU, Somalia, July 26 (UPI) -- An al-Shabab bomb attack on a hotel frequently used by politicians and foreign diplomats in Mogadishu, Somalia, killed at least 10 people and injured at least 20 Sunday.

A large motor truck filled with explosives, reportedly a Toyota Dyna, detonated outside the Jazeera Palace Hotel, near Mogadishu International Airport.

The hotel is often used by Somali politicians, journalists and foreign diplomats and has previously been targeted in attacks. The Chinese and Egyptian embassies are also located within the hotel.

The nationalities of those killed or wounded in the attack have not been reported yet.

Al-Shabab said it carried out the bombing as retaliation for attacks by the African Union and Somali government.

Al-Shabab imposes strict Islamic law in the areas it controls within Somalia and frequently carries out attacks, including the 2013 Westgate shopping mall attack in Kenya in which at least 67 people were killed. Security in Mogadishu has improved since al-Shabab lost control of the capital in 2011, but the group continues to target the city.
